Lowering Our Footprint

With COP26 currently taking place in Glasgow, climate change is quite rightly dominating the media agenda. We wanted to take the opportunity to share what we are doing as a company to lessen our footprint as a footwear designer and manufacturer.

At Josef Seibel, we’ve long been committed to a more sustainable approach and we are on a continuous journey to find improvements so that we create long-lasting footwear via methods that do not make heavy demands on the natural resources we are keen to protect for future generations.

Traditional Craftmanship

In 2009, we first launched our Spirit of Nature collection, which focuses on sourcing raw materials close to home to reduce CO2 and using traditional construction methods, such as hand-stitching, to lessen the reliance of adhesive-based construction. We also incorporate recycled active carbon footbeds which are breathable and anti-bacterial and soles made of either a rubber and natural cork mix using renewable materials, or a CFC and lead-free polyurethane.

Real Leather

Throughout our collection, we continue to use real leather rather than alternatives, as genuine leather is natural and durable, does not have to be chemically produced and causes less CO2 during transportation

Sustainable Materials

Another new sustainable material we are excited about is Wool! Merino wool is a natural fiber that is environmentally friendly, bio-degradable, and an excellent thermo-regulator.

Eco-Friendly packaging

It’s not all about the footwear, our shoe boxes are made from 100% recycled paper, use water-based inks and corn-based glue.

We care deeply for our world and people, now and in the future. Sustainability is at the heart of our approach and our environmental impact is carefully monitored. Of course we are a long way from the end of the road, but step by step we are finding new solutions and ideas that make each of our manufacturing processes as sustainable as possible.
